The D. U. Conservator cover picture in the background gives some idea of the degree of difficulty involved in painting these drakes in this small scale. One has raised and undercut primaries in an alert position while the other two are a more relaxed pose. All three are prepared for painting being primed in the final picture but I have included a work in progress picture which more clearly shows the detail involved in burning feather tracts in a decoy this size. now with a little bit of painting completed October 26th 2003.
These birds were donated by the artist to carving competitions/clubs in Winnipeg Manitoba, Langley B.C. (Fraser Valley) as well as Westlake. Ohio (Cleveland) as fund raising by "cocktail bird auctions". We thank the new owners for their generosity in supporting competitive carving and hope they enjoy their little wood duck drake for years to come.
